Chhattisgarh is located in the east of India, and borders the state of Orissa. With a population of 18 million, about 90% are Hindus (the tribes are actually animists), 5% Muslim and less than 1% Christian. This state was one of the last to open up for missions. There are strong laws limiting conversions to Christianity. It is a pioneer mission field, but is becoming more responsive. Churches are multiplying despite local and state-wide opposition. Our three national evangelists are based in Raipur, the capital city with 1.7 million. They hold open air film meetings in villages across the state in partnership with churches and pioneer pastors. Through their film meetings and preaching, thousands are hearing the gospel, even in bordering states A free Sewing School for poor women is located in Raipur, and has graduated its first class. These women will be able to find work and support their families. Each year they are graduated regardless of their religion, but some freely come to faith in Christ. After the film on Jesus, the gospel is preached
